Our Story.

We are a young local family who live on a property in the Central West. Rural life has many advantages (e.g. even my clothesline has a scenic view) but a rubbish bin service is not one of them. When you have to physically take your rubbish to the local tip and see where it all ends up, it’s hard to not end up as an environmentally conscious household.

Using disposable nappies didn’t feel like a particularly viable option for our family, nor did sending our relatives back into town after a visit with our newborn with a bag of smelly nappies. At the time, I didn’t mind clothes washing and felt that as far as household jobs go, I found it to be really quite pleasant. So in my mind, what’s a couple of extra loads for some nappies. Spoiler - I still don’t mind washing and cloth nappies really are easy - in fact, the less brain power the better (postpartum Mum’s can relate to this)!

After discussing this idea of using cloth nappies with my colleagues at work, I found that one of the families had successfully used cloth for all three of their children (and that some of the same nappies were even being used on their third child, 6 years later). It was at this point that I was already convinced this was something that I wanted to do.

Fast forward to the end of my pregnancy and my colleague invited me around to share all of their knowledge of cloth nappies. This was the best possible introduction into the world of cloth nappies. I learned about the different products, materials, how to construct nappies, what to look out for, which nappy brands had been tried and tested and lasted the test of time on their own three children. I even learned about how to clean the nappies and what a wash routine looks like.

Pure gold!

Any one who has done Modern Cloth Nappies will tell you there is a bit of a trial and error period. You quickly learn what fit your baby needs, how often they need to be changed and what a good household rhythm looks and feels like. In fact, I have acquired a very specific skill set and simply want to share what I have learned with like minded families who wish to trial modern cloth nappies.

So, thank you so much for joining us and I look forward to meeting and support you and your family on your cloth nappy journey!
